In sending away captain Brady Tkachuk to the Florida Panthers, the Ottawa Senators received four draft picks, including three first-rounders. For the Senators' sake, GM Steve Staios must have something else up his sleeve.
The Ottawa Senators heard all the noise surrounding Brady Tkachuk, then they heard from Brady Tkachuk himself. And they came to the conclusion that now was the time to cut ties with their captain and the heartbeat of their team.
After dealing Tkachuk to the Florida Panthers for the ninth and 25th picks in this year's draft, a first-rounder in 2029 and a second-rounder in 2030, it will be years before the Senators will see any return on this deal.
Unless, of course, it's part of a bigger plan to bolster a roster that was swept in the first round by the eventual Stanley Cup champion.
It better be. Because if it's not, this trade has the potential to go down as one of the most one-sided trades ever, and not in a good way from Ottawa's perspective.
