The NHL fined Anaheim Ducks right winger Beckett Sennecke $2,000 for embellishment on Tuesday.
Sennecke was cited a second time this season for violating the NHL's diving and embellishment rule.
The NHL Hockey Operations Department tracks all games, logs all penalties for diving and embellishment and flags all plays that should have been called but weren't.
For the first citation, the department flagged Sennecke for an incident against the St. Louis Blues on March 8. He received a warning as a result.
Sennecke's second citation stems from his embellishment penalty against the Montreal Canadiens on March 15. Canadiens right winger Josh Anderson was penalized for holding on the play as well.
If the 20-year-old were cited for embellishment or diving again this season, he would face more serious fines. It would be $3,000 for his third citation, $4,000 for his fourth and $5,000 for each time afterward.
Sennecke's fine also counts toward Ducks coach John Quenneville's total. Four fines issued to a player or club collectively result in the coach receiving a $2,000 fine. Another fine would trigger a $3,000 fine for the coach, followed by $4,000 and $5,000 for the next two.
Sennecke has 21 goals and 33 assists for 54 points in 70 games. He leads all NHL rookies in scoring this season. He also ranks third on the Ducks in points.
