To say that Game 3 between the Oilers and Kings was entertaining might be the understatement of the 2024-25 NHL season.
When the dust settled on Friday night, the Oilers cut the Kings' series lead to 2-1 with a dramatic 7-4 victory at Rogers Place. But one moment in particular changed the series.
In just his second game of the season, Edmonton’s Evander Kane crashing the net tied things up at 4-4. The goal was not only reviewed by the officials to see if the puck was kicked across the goal line but also challenged by Kings coach Jim Hiller for goalie interference. That challenge not only failed but also led to Evan Bouchard’s game-winning power-play goal.
Leon Draisaitl, who assisted on the game-winner in a two-point night, showed how this team will find a way to respond when their backs are against the wall.
“We got a lot of character, we’re going to go down swinging if we go down,” Draisaitl said. “We’ve created that approach here, we’ve created that attitude within this organization, we’re not going to back down until we’re out.”
That said, the Oilers had a lot of issues they needed to address in this series, and while things worked out in Game 3, they’ll need to keep improving them to tie the series.
In his latest video column, Avry Lewis-McDougall gets into all that and more.
