Hockey Canada has announced that the chair of its board of directors, Jonathan Goldbloom, will be stepping down, with an interim replacement set to be filled later this year.
Hockey Canada is set to make a significant change within it's governing body.
The organization announced on Tuesday that Jonathan Goldbloom, chair of the Hockey Canada Board of Directors, is stepping away from his position.
“Serving on the Hockey Canada Board of Directors with my colleagues for nearly four years has been the privilege of a lifetime," Goldbloom said in a statement. “I am confident that our Members, board and staff are well positioned to lead our National Winter Sport to unprecedented success.”
Further to the announcement, Hockey Canada added that an interim chair will be appointed by the board to serve in the role until a new candidate is appointed at the 2026 Hockey Canada Annual Meeting on Dec. 5.
Goldbloom replaced Hugh L. Fraser on the board as part of a new era for the organization in December 2022. The board was elected in an effort to usher in a new era for Hockey Canada following the scandal involving five members of the 2018 Canadian National Junior Team who were accused of sexual assault.
Goldbloom was later elected to a three-year term as chair in November 2023.
“It is the appropriate moment to have a new chair begin to lead the organization during the first year of the Olympic and Paralympic quadrennial, and this fall, I look forward to shifting my role to Team Canada’s #1 fan. Go Canada Go!”
Hockey Canada provided no explanation for Goldbloom's sudden departure.
