Florida Panthers captain Aleksander Barkov is this year’s recipient of the NHL’s Frank J. Selke Trophy and the King Clancy Trophy.
He received both awards during a team meeting. Panthers GM Bill Zito welcomed young visitors from Joe DiMaggio's Children's Hospital, who brought in the two trophies as a surprise for Barkov.
The King Clancy Trophy is given "to the player who best exemplifies leadership qualities on and off the ice and has made a noteworthy humanitarian contribution in his community."
Barkov is a regular visitor at Joe DiMaggio Children’s Hospital. Dating back to 2019, he donated $1,600 for every goal he scores (for his No. 16), and $800 for every assist. The center has donated over $400,000 since 2019.
After the Panthers beat the Edmonton Oilers to win the 2024 Stanley Cup, Barkov brought the Cup to the hospital.
“If we win the Cup again, I'm definitely bringing it back to Joe DiMaggio's Children's Hospital," he said.

Moments after the children and Hockey Hall of Fame staff surprised Barkov with the King Clancy Trophy, the Selke Trophy was rolled into the room.
"I was not expecting it at all,” Barkov said. “When they brought in another trophy, it was pretty overwhelming for me. I am truly honored by that award."
The Selke Trophy is awarded "to the forward who best excels in the defensive aspects of the game."
This is Barkov’s second straight Selke Trophy and the third of his career. He was awarded his first Selke after the 2020-21 campaign.
Barkov is now tied for the third-most Selke Trophy wins in NHL history. He sits behind Bob Gainey (four) and Patrice Bergeron (six).
Barkov received 1,363 votes from the Professional Hockey Writers Association. He had 526 more votes than teammate Sam Reinhart, who finished second in voting. Tampa Bay Lightning center Anthony Cirelli finished third with 828 votes, nine fewer than Reinhart.
