The Ottawa Senators have named Thomas Chabot captain ahead of the 2026-27 season.
The Ottawa Senators have honored their longest-tenured player with the 'C' ahead of the 2026-27 season.
Defenseman Thomas Chabot has been named the 11th captain in Senators history, the team announced Tuesday.
The Senators' captaincy became vacant when Brady Takchuk was traded to the Florida Panthers on June 21.
Chabot will be accompanied by Claude Giroux, Jake Sanderson and Tim Stutzle as the alternate captains heading into the season.
"Thomas exemplifies everything we want in an Ottawa Senator," Senators president of hockey operations and general manager Steve Staios said in a release. "He's commited to the city and to the organization. He puts the team first."
Chabot was a first-round pick of the Senators, 15th overall, back in the 2015 NHL Draft, and has suited up for all 569 games of his nine-year career with the franchise.
"We've always said it. Ottawa feels like home. It really does," Chabot said of his family's connection to the city. "We bought our first house here. We started our family here. Becoming captain here is a huge honour."
The Senators open the regular season at the Toronto Maple Leafs on Oct. 3.
