There was a time during the playoffs this year where Stuart Skinner of the Edmonton Oilers had not posted a single-game save percentage between .835 and .999, which means he was either lights-out or out to lunch in every game.

That is not a sustainable winning formula. And the Oilers know it.

The Oilers don't need great goaltending to win a Cup because nobody does anymore. What they need is good goaltending and, far more importantly, goaltending that is consistently good. Despite two runs to the Stanley Cup final, they haven't received that.

And there will be people who will say, "Yeah, but Stuart Skinner backstopped the Oilers to Game 7 of the Stanley Cup final last year." No, he didn't. He happened to be the guy standing between the goal posts when Edmonton went to Game 7.

Big difference.

That's why, regardless of what happens in the next two games, the Oilers have to once and for all address their goaltending situation this off-season.
