Anyone who has watched the Toronto Maple Leafs over the past decade has seen Game 5 of the Battle of Ontario so many times.
Watch the Maple Leafs outplay their opponent, watch their power play go flat, watch their stars disappear, watch them make a couple of mistakes that end up in their net.
Wash, rinse, repeat.
This team cannot close out teams in playoff series, in large part because they lose their focus and, consequently, their attention to detail. On the Ottawa Senators' first and second goals in a 4-0 win, all the flaws were on full display.
The Maple Leafs may well end up winning this series, but even if they do, they'll have frittered away a great opportunity to get some rest before Round 2. The collars are tighter now, and they should be. New coach, new goalie, a bunch of new defensemen and a new attitude. It was supposed to be different this year, but in the past two games, it has been more of the same.
Mitch Marner probably said it best after Game 4, when he said, "It's never easy to close out a team."
Particularly for this group. Today's post-game video column has more.
