The Toronto Maple Leafs should be watched as we continue to get closer to the 2025-26 season.

When looking at the Maple Leafs' roster, it is clear that they have a surplus of NHL-caliber forwards. Due to this, it would not necessarily be surprising if they looked to move at least one of them before the season begins. This is especially so when noting that they currently only have a little over $1.9 million of cap space available, according to PuckPedia

Let's look at three forwards the Maple Leafs could trade before the 2025-26 season begins.

    Calle Jarnkrok, RW/C

The 33-year-old Calle Jarnkrok has been the subject of trade speculation this off-season. When looking at Toronto's roster, they have other bottom six forwards like him who are younger and less expensive.

Jarnkrok was limited to only 19 regular-season games last season for the Maple Leafs after making his season debut in March. He then followed that up by recording one assist and a minus-4 rating in 12 games.

Given how this past season went for Jarnkrok, the Maple Leafs would be selling low on him if they moved him this summer. However, moving on from his $2.1 million salary could be beneficial for Toronto, as it would give them more flexibility to try to bring in an upgrade elsewhere.

The possibility of Jarnkrok generating some interest should not be ruled out, as he is a solid two-way player when healthy and can play not only multiple positions but on the penalty kill as well. He had a career-high 20 goals and 39 points while averaging just 14:23 of ice time in 2022-23, and he's usually good for at least 25 points. He could be a nice pickup for a team needing help in their bottom six and PK.

One catch is Jarnkrok has a 10-team no-trade clause, according to PuckPedia.

    David Kampf, C

Like Jarnkrok, David Kampf's name has been floating around the rumor mill this summer, and it is easy to understand why.

With the Maple Leafs acquiring Nicolas Roy this off-season and Scott Laughton at the 2025 NHL trade deadline, Kampf may no longer have a spot at center in their bottom six.

With this, it would be great for the Maple Leafs if they could find a taker for Kampf. The 30-year-old forward has a $2.4-million cap hit until the end of the 2026-27 season. While this is not the most expensive deal on their roster, it is a bit high for Kampf's projected role on the Maple Leafs at this point.

Kampf could be a nice addition for a team looking for an upgrade at their fourth-line center spot and penalty kill, though. This is especially so when he has plenty of success at the faceoff dot, as evidenced by his career 51.4 faceoff win percentage.

    Nick Robertson, LW

Nick Robertson recently re-signed with the Maple Leafs on a one-year, $1.825 million contract.

While the 23-year-old left winger has gotten his new deal signed, the possibility of him getting traded this summer still should not be ruled out. He has been the subject of trade rumors for a long time now, and they have not stopped this off-season.

When looking at the Maple Leafs' current forward group, it is hard to determine where Robertson will fit. They added Matias Maccelli and Dakota Joshua this off-season. Thus, if Robertson is unable to secure a spot in the Maple Leafs' lineup during training camp, it would be understandable if they moved him.

However, with Robertson looking for the opportunity to be a full-time NHL player, a change of scenery may be the best for him at this time. The fit just hasn't been there in Toronto, and he could be an interesting low-risk, high-reward player for another team to take a chance on that needs more skill.

In 69 games this past season with the Maple Leafs, Robertson scored a career-high 15 goals and recorded 22 points. While he has yet to become a true middle-six forward, perhaps being traded to a different club could help him take that next step.
