Every year now, a slew of NHL teams introduce alternate jerseys. It all began in 1992 on the occasion of the NHL’s 75th anniversary. That year, the Original Six squads all sported throwback jerseys. More recently, Colorado and the Rangers began the trend with their classics. But since then it’s started to go a little haywire (see Coyotes, Phoenix; Lightning, Tampa Bay; and Hurricanes, Carolina).

Cynics will say it’s all a cash grab; preying on parents hoping to satisfy their kids and fanatics’ needs for everything team-related. Those with more optimistic outlooks see alternate jerseys as links to the past and chances to make-up for earlier jersey faux pas (we’re talking to you, Atlanta).

Despite some poorly conceived alternates, there are some mighty fine ones as well. With that in mind, this week we’re counting down the Top 10 debuted this season by NHL teams.

The THN.com Top 10 appears Wednesdays only on TheHockeyNews.com.
