DETROIT (Ticker) -- The Colorado Avalanche will take on the

Detroit Red Wings on Monday for the first time since being swept

out of the playoffs last spring.

The Red Wings completely dominated the Avalanche in the Western

Conference semifinals, outscoring their rivals by a 21-9 margin

en route to winning the Stanley Cup for fourth time in 11

seasons.

Detroit has picked up right where it left off, climbing to the

top of the Central Division with one of the league's best

all-around teams. The Red Wings have the second-ranked offense

in the NHL and the top-ranked power play at 28.2 percent.

Marian Hossa has been a boost to the offense, leading the team

with 15 goals and 29 points this season. Detroit also has a

pair of Selke Trophy finalists in Henrik Zetterberg and Pavel

Datsyuk, who have combined for 21 goals and 30 assists.

Datsyuk, who won the Selke for the first time last season,

centers the top line and continues to produce on the offensive

end despite being responsible for containing the opponent's best

trio.

The Avalanche are still looking to find their stride this season

as they currently sit at the bottom of the Northwest Division.

Colorado, which is starting a four-game road trip, is coming off

a 4-3 setback to the Chicago Blackhawks on Friday. Ian

Laperriere scored a goal and set up another for the Avalanche,

who are seeking their third win in four contests.
