The New Jersey Devils have signed amateur coach Kyle Shapiro to serve as their EBUG tonight after a slew of injuries has depleted their depth in net.

The New Jersey Devils will be forced to turn to an emergency backup goaltender on Thursday night after a slew of injuries depleted their depth at the position in recent weeks, signing former NCAA Divison III goaltender Kyle Shapiro to an amateur tryout offer.
Shapiro is expected to dress on Thursday night and serve as Jon Gillies' backup when the Devils take on the New York Islanders.
Shapiro currently serves as an assistant coach with the North American Hockey League's New Jersey Titans, who currently sit first in the league's standings with a 23-10-1 record.
Prior to his coaching career, Shapiro spent four seasons in the NCAA, playing his first three years of collegiate hockey at the University of Southern Maine before transferring to New England College to finish out his playing days with a .914 save percentage in 23 games.
With Mackenzie Blackwood, Jonathan Bernier, Akira Schmid, and Nico Daws all unavailable for differing periods of time, the Devils have seen their depth in net evaporate this season. Barring a return from one of their injured netminders, this might not be the last time the team will need to travel down the EBUG path.
