The franchise that is the Plymouth Whalers will be moving to another part of Michigan in the summer and the team officially has a new name and look. Did they go with the social media favorite?

As soon as the Ontario League's Plymouth Whalers announced that the team would be moving to Flint, Mich., over the summer, social media buzzed with the idea that the franchise would take on the name Flint Tropics from the Will Ferrell basketball comedy "Semi-Pro."

With the Whalers eliminated from the OHL playoffs, the team unveiled its new name and logo Monday. Meet your Flint Firebirds.

Is it a safe choice, given that "Tropics" was out there? Sure, but I'm OK with that. The

uniforms remind me of another new-ish CHL team, the

Sherbooke Phoenix, but the name is cool and the logo's pretty decent. My favorite flourish is the tail snaking around the puck.
