The Flyers have signed defenseman Keith Yandle to a one-year contract worth $900,000 when the free agency market officially opens up on Wednesday afternoon.
The 34-year-old defender was bought out of his contract by the Florida Panthers earlier this summer. Yandle had two years remaining worth $6.35-million, but with trade rumors clouding all talk about the veteran throughout the season, it was clear Yandle was not going to finish his term out with the Flyers.
Yandle spent the past five seasons with the Panthers, recording a career-high 62 points in 2018-19. Yandle's offensive numbers were always solid, posting at least 40 points in his first four years with the team, but would often struggle in his own zone.
Yandle holds the longest active ironman streak in the NHL at 922 consecutive regular-season games played. Yandle is 42 games short of Doug Jarvis' record for the most consecutive games played, an honor he can beat on Jan 20, 2022 against Columbus.
It's been a busy off-season for Philadelphia's blueline. Since July 17th, the Flyers have brought in Ryan Ellis, Rasmus Ristolainen and now Yandle, while shipping out Robert Hagg, Shayne Gostisbehere and Philippe Myers. The club also acquired forward Cam Atkinson in exchange for winger Jakub Voracek on Saturday.
