The Vegas Golden Knights have signed forward Nicolas Roy to a five-year contract extension.

As a busy offseason continues to unfold in Vegas, the Golden Knights took care of another important piece of business on Monday evening, agreeing to terms with forward Nicolas Roy on a five-year contract extension worth an average annual value of $3 million.
The details of the deal, which now ties Roy to Vegas through the 2026-27 season, such as its salary structure and the inclusion of any trade protection have yet to be revealed.
After shipping out top-six staple Max Pacioretty for nothing last month, the Golden Knights are clearly expecting Roy to help pick up the slack in the offensive department as they embark upon a crucial 2022-23 season. It's a fair assumption to make, however. Roy broke out as a useful contributor for Vegas last season, setting career-highs across the board with 15 goals and 24 assists for 39 points in 78 games while averaging upwards of 16 minutes in nightly ice time.
Still, penciling Roy into the Golden Knights' top-six from the get-go is a big leap for the 25-year-old to make.
Prior to this past season, Roy had never reached the double-digit mark in goals, assists, or points at any point in his career. His breakout is a nice step forward, that's for sure, but the Golden Knights are putting a lot of stock in Roy's continued offensive improvement with this extension -- especially given how close they are to the cap.
Regardless, Roy is now locked in for the next half-decade as a Golden Knight and is sure to see a spike in usage as the team shapes its forward corps early on.
