If you're looking for an inspiring story, they don't get much better than the Washington Capitals, the old, slow team that could.

Their flurry to finish the regular season landed them a well-deserved playoff spot in the Eastern Conference, beating out the Detroit Red Wings, Pittsburgh Penguins and Philadelphia Flyers. And while it seemed like we had seen the last of Alex Ovechkin and Sidney Crosby in the playoffs, the former ramped up his goal-scoring to get back into the post-season.

And that's where it will end. There will be no first-round Presidents' Trophy curse in 2024-25. Why? Because the Rangers are better in every facet of the game than the Capitals, which will have used up a lot of their currency in simply making the playoffs. They won't have anything left for the faster, better, more offensively talented Rangers.
