I once had a former one-dimensional enforcer approach me at an NHL event and tear a strip off me for denigrating his ilk of hockey player. 

"I worked hard and sacrificed everything to get to the NHL," he said.

My response: "So what? All players work extremely hard and make tremendous sacrifices to get to the NHL. That's the bare minimum. You took up a roster spot of a more useful player who worked every bit as hard as you did."

Full disclosure: I have no time for one-dimensional enforcers in hockey. I have no time for Matt Rempe. But even those who champion players of this kind in the NHL have to be wondering what he is doing there, no?
