We keep waiting for the Carolina Hurricanes to break through and win another Stanley Cup to go along with the one they won almost two decades ago. They keep trying to get it right. We'll see if they're successful.

The Hurricanes have indeed been a legitimate contender for a while now, but they have lacked the game-breaker most great NHL teams have. Even when they won the Cup in 2006, it was very much a triumph of the collective over the individual.

It should come as no surprise their Mount Rushmore is made up largely of players who were part of that Cup-winning team. And since one of the requirements is that at least one of the players has to be currently on the NHL roster, we've added a guy who will almost certainly be a key cog if the Hurricanes ever do break through.

    Here's Carolina's Mount Rushmore:

And here's how the Mount Rushmore rankings have gone so far:

    32. Seattle Kraken
    31. Columbus Blue Jackets
    30. Arizona Coyotes/Utah HC
    29. Minnesota Wild
    28. Ottawa Senators
    27. Winnipeg Jets
    26. Vegas Golden Knights
    25. Nashville Predators
