Former Ottawa goalie Ray Emery has – for the time being - left his team in Russia in protest.

The 26-year-old oft-troubled netminder didn’t report back to Mytishchi Atlant following the end of the Kontinental League’s mid-season break and according to ESPN, Emery is citing salary-related issues as his reason for staying away.

The team has reportedly used the wrong exchange rate in the past on the goalie’s annual wage of $2 million and Emery claims this has left him about 33 percent short of the pay that he is owed.

Emery, who led Ottawa to the Stanley Cup final in 2006-07, left for Russia last off-season when he couldn’t find a job in the NHL. So far this season, Emery has posted an impressive 20-6-0 record, 2.00 GAA and .930 save percentage.
