Former NHL forward Scott Mellanby has resigned as assistant general manager of the Montreal Canadiens.

As first reported by Bally Sports Midwest's Andy Strickland, former NHL forward Scott Mellanby has resigned as assistant general manager of the Montreal Canadiens.

Mellanby, who played over 1,400 games with five teams over his career, had served as the team's assistant GM since 2015-16. Previously, he worked with the Canadiens as the director of player personnel for two years after various roles with Vancouver and St. Louis from 2008-12.

The news also comes after Sportsnet's Elliotte Friedman reported that the Canadiens were granted permission to talk with former New York Rangers GM Jeff Gorton about a position with the organization.
