Despite teams struggling defensively to start the season, media speculation suggests a trade for Jakob Chychrun still isn't imminent.

Despite being a trade candidate since last season, Jakob Chychrun remains with the Arizona Coyotes. By the look of things, the 24-year-old defenseman won't be changing teams anytime soon despite some teams struggling on the back end to start the season.

Chychrun said last month that he and Coyotes management agreed it would be best for both sides to part ways. Despite media speculation linking him to the Columbus Blue Jackets, Edmonton Oilers, Los Angeles Kings, Ottawa Senators, St. Louis Blues and Toronto Maple Leafs, there's no indication he's any closer to getting traded to one of those teams.

The Senators have been mentioned most often as having an interest in Chychrun. On Saturday, however, Sportsnet's Elliotte Friedman reported sources claiming there “isn't a path to make a deal” right now, although he did suggest that could change once the blueliner returns to action.

Chychrun's injury history is one of the major stumbling blocks in the path. PHNX Sports' Craig Morgan recently indicated the puck-moving rearguard has had surgery on both knees, as well as shoulder ligament surgery, ankle surgery, two wrist surgeries and at least one concussion in his six-season NHL career. He's been sidelined by a wrist injury since the start of training camp.

The other issue is the Coyotes' high asking price. GM Bill Armstrong reportedly seeks a return heavy with futures including at least one first-round pick and a top prospect or good young NHL player.
