The Minnesota Wild have locked up another key member of their forward corps.
The Wild announced on Monday afternoon that the team has come to terms with winger Jordan Greenway on a three-year contract extension worth an average annual value of $3 million.
The deal, which keeps the 24-year-old in Minnesota through the 2024-25 season, will kick in at the start of the 2022-23 season, as Greenway has one year remaining on his current contract at a cap hit of $2.1 million.
Picked by the Wild in the second round of the 2015 NHL Entry Draft, Greenway has enjoyed a decent start to his young career, making his big-league debut in 2018, and scoring at roughly a 30-point pace ever since. The native of Canton, New York is on track to hit those totals once again this season, with Greenway currently sitting with four goals and nine assists for 13 points in 33 games on the year.
While he does show occasional flashes of skill, Greenway is known primarily for his hulking size, standing at 6'6 and 227 pounds, making him one of the more imposing power forwards in the league. With a few tweaks to his game, including perhaps an added step to his footspeed, Greenway has the tools to evolve into an even more vital contributor to a Wild lineup that is bursting with intriguing young talent.
After today's extension, Greenway now has at least the next three years to prove he can continue that trajectory.
