The season may be over for the Toronto Maple Leafs, but that hasn't stopped speculation about their potential off-season plans. Pundits continue to ponder whether Auston Matthews, John Tavares, Mitch Marner and William Nylander will hit the trade block.

Kyle Dubas indicated he's willing to consider moving one of those “Core Four” if he returns as GM. However, that could get complicated. CapFriendly shows Tavares has a full no-movement clause, Matthews and Marner each have an NMC beginning July 1 while Nylander's 10-team no-trade clause kicks in on the same date.

Sportsnet's Luke Fox suggested the 32-year-old Tavares and his $11-million average annual value would be the more desirable to move. The Leafs captain, however, intends on finishing his contract in Toronto. Matthews has a year left on his contract but stated his intent to sign an extension as soon as possible. Fox believes the Leafs will do all they can to re-sign him.

Nylander also has a year left on his contract, while Marner has two. Both claimed they want to stay in Toronto.

The Athletic's Pierre LeBrun thinks that the single year on Nylander's contract could make it harder to find suitable trade partners. Interested clubs would have to get into negotiating an extension before agreeing to acquire him. Nevertheless, Sportsnet's Jeff Marek believes there would be considerable interest in the 27-year-old winger, suggesting the Colorado Avalanche as a destination.

LeBrun considers Marner as the least complicated to move, given that extra year on his contract. He felt the 26-year-old winger could fetch a top-pairing defenseman.

If Dubas or his successor intends to move Marner, they'll have to work quickly. July 1 is just six weeks away.
