The Detroit Red Wings' Jack Campbell will receive care from the NHL/NHLPA Player Assistance Program, the league announced.
Campbell, 32, will be unavailable to the Red Wings organization during this time, and he can return once the program administrators clear him for on-ice competition.
Campbell signed a one-year, $775,000 contract with the Red Wings on July 1 after the Edmonton Oilers bought out the remainder of his five-year, $25-million deal signed in July 2022.
As is the case when any player receives care from the program, no other details are released unless the player decides to do so themselves.
The 6-foot-3 netminder from Port Huron, Mich., played five games with the Oilers last season before spending the rest of the campaign with the AHL's Bakersfield Condors. He recorded a 2.63 goals-against average and .918 save percentage in 33 games with them.
In 176 career games between the Dallas Stars, Los Angeles Kings, Toronto Maple Leafs and Oilers, Campbell has a 93-52-18 record, a 2.76 GAA, .909 save percentage and 10 shutouts. He played in the 2022 NHL All-Star Game in a 2021-22 campaign that saw him record a career-high 31 wins in 49 games played.
Campbell also has 18 games of NHL playoff experience, going 7-8-0 with a 2.28 GAA and .920 SP.
