Switzerland's hockey federation has called for sanctions to be placed against Russia and Belarus amidst the ongoing Russian invasion of Ukraine.

In a post on SIHF.ch, Swiss Ice Hockey said (through Google Translate) that they "condemn the actions of the Russian government in the strongest possible terms. In these difficult times, Swiss Ice Hockey's thoughts are with the Ukrainian ice hockey family and the entire Ukrainian population."

In a statement, Switzerland said it is requesting that Russia be removed from hosting the 2023 World Junior Championship in Novosibirsk and the men's World Hockey Championship in St. Petersburg next May.

Switzerland will also not travel to Russia in preparation for the upcoming World Championship.

The IIHF is set to meet on Monday about the next steps against Russia.
