The Blackhawks Are The NHL's Perfect Cautionary Tale Of A Rebuild

The dejection on Seth Jones face was palpable, the resignation in his voice telling. After the Chicago Blackhawks lost 2-1 to the Utah Hockey Club Tuesday night, the veteran defenseman sounded off on the state of things in Chicago.

"I think we’re the exact same team right now as we were in Game 1," Jones told reporters. "It’s pretty evident out there. We haven’t made any strides to be a better, more simple hockey team, and it shows. We don't get a lot of wins because of that. This has been almost four years of (being at the) bottom of the league, so it's not just this year, for me at least."

Now there's probably an agenda behind all of this, and it has to do with Jones wanting to play for a contender after signing an eight-year deal in 2021, and to be fair, Jones is part of the problem. But his point is well taken. If you're going to go through the process of a complete rebuild, as Mike Babcock once said, there's going to be pain.

The Blackhawks are feeling all of that pain right now. It will be a while before things get better.

Here's more in today's video column.

When you want your team to strip it down to the bare wood and take on a total rebulid, what you get is what the Chicago Blackhawks are enduring right now, says Ken Campbell.

A question for everyone: which team's rebuild went the best in your memory?

interesting, some players get millions of dollars to play, so play. yes its tough when teams go through a rebuild that they donot win many games that can be frustrating. But when a player gets millions to play then play quit whining. This rule of where player can choose which team to be traded to is totally stupid especially when they get paid millions to play hockey.
