Following their horrific 2-1 loss to the Utah Hockey Club on Tuesday night, Seth Jones went off on the Chicago Blackhawks to the media. He made it loud and clear that he thinks they are not doing the right things to get better.

“We’re the exact same team right now as we were game 1.” Jones said after the loss. “It’s pretty evident out there. We haven’t made any strides to be a better, more simple hockey team, and it shows.”

Jones wasn’t happy with his teammates' efforts. The Utah Hockey Club had 93 shot attempts, while the Blackhawks only had 39. It is fair to be upset after a game like that.

“We had no business being in that game.”

Jones certainly nailed it with that quote. Somehow, Chicago only lost by one goal despite being worked for 60 minutes. If Arvid Soderblom hadn’t taken advantage of his chance to be a difference-maker (34 saves on 36 shots), the final score would have been way uglier.

Jones’ comments will carry weight and drive headlines because he requested a trade last week. He is ready to move on to a contender and doesn’t want to be surrounded by losing.

A lot would go into a deal involving Jones, but it feels evident that he’s eventually going to be gone now. These comments didn’t bode well for Kyle Davidson who may still want to keep Seth Jones around.

Whoever, if anyone, lands Seth Jones in a trade,  should love his want-to-win attitude. The Blackhawks didn’t get him what they promised on the ice and it continued to worsen over time.

Will the Blackhawks realistically trade Jones before the deadline on March 7th? It doesn’t make sense for the Hawks to retain that much money for five years but Jones is asking for it. These quotes will intensify that conversation.
