The NHL's pre-season kicked off on Saturday, and Ryan Kennedy and Mike Stephens have lots to talk about on Tuesday's episode of The Hockey News Podcast.

Toronto Maple Leafs center Auston Matthews generated discussion this week with news he'll get an increased role on the penalty kill. Could he or one of his teammates content for the Selke Trophy?

Elsewhere, the Anaheim Ducks still haven't re-signed RFAs Trevor Zegras and Jamie Drysdale, two players who could be key cogs in the team's core for years to come.

The Ottawa Senators were in the headlines as Michael Andlauer took over as majority owner last week and intends to prove to the large surrounding NHL markets in Toronto and Montreal why they aren't the center of the universe.

Then there's Logan Cooley who made the highlight reel in his first game for the Arizona Coyotes. Ryan and Mike debated whether he's Connor Bedard's biggest competition for the Calder Trophy.

This week's episode also featured much more, including the debut of a new segment called "The Best." Check out the full episode below and subscribe to The Hockey News Podcast on your preferred platform.
