Pierre-Luc Dubois and the Winnipeg Jets continue to attract rumors and speculation about potential trade destinations across the NHL.
Pierre-Luc DuboisPierre-Luc Dubois has dominated the NHL rumor mill since last week's report indicating that he isn't interested in signing a contract extension with the Winnipeg Jets. His agent, Pat Brisson, is reportedly willing to help the Jets find a trade partner this summer for the 24-year-old center.
The Score's Josh Wegman listed the Boston Bruins, Carolina Hurricanes, Colorado Avalanche, Detroit Red Wings and Montreal Canadiens as potential destinations for Dubois. Daily Faceoff's Matt Larkin also included the Hurricanes, Avalanche and Canadiens on his list, along with the Minnesota Wild.
Sportsnet's Elliotte Friedman mentioned some teams believe the Los Angeles Kings could take a run at Dubois. Larkin, however, doesn't consider them a suitor. He pointed out that they already have an established No. 1 center in Anze Kopitar, plus they spent a lot two years ago to add Phillip Danault as their No. 2.
Larkin also doesn't see the Bruins making the cut. He observed they're paying bonus overages to Patrice Bergeron and David Krejci, plus they lack high-end young assets to use as trade bait. NBC Sports Boston's Nick Goss agreed, adding that Dubois forced a trade out of Columbus over two years ago and seems to be doing the same thing in Winnipeg.
On Saturday, The Athletic reported the Canadiens reached out to the Jets regarding Dubois. However, they doubted the Habs would overpay to acquire and sign him to a contract extension.
Jack Todd of the Montreal Gazette cited Dubois' durability and consistency but wondered if it would be worth it for the Canadiens to get into a bidding war with other clubs. He also noted the Jets' reportedly toxic locker room and expressed concern over its influence on Dubois.
