Will Trevor Zegras Become the Next Anaheim Ducks Player to Get Traded?

After the Anaheim Ducks traded Jamie Drysdale, the speculation began on whether Trevor Zegras' future on the squad is up in the air.

After the Anaheim Ducks traded Jamie Drysdale, the speculation began on whether Trevor Zegras' future on the squad is up in the air.

The Anaheim Ducks were part of a surprising trade on Monday, shipping defenseman Jamie Drysdale and a 2025 second-round draft pick to the Philadelphia Flyers for left wing prospect Cutter Gauthier.

That sparked speculation over whether Anaheim GM Pat Verbeek could have another major move in store involving another of his promising young players. On Tuesday, Daily Faceoff's Frank Seravalli included Ducks forward Trevor Zegras on his updated list of NHL trade targets.

Seravalli suggested the opportunity is there for Verbeek to peddle Zegras, pointing out the promising base of young talent he's compiled in Gauthier, Leo Carlsson, Mason McTavish, Pavel Mintyukov and Lukas Dostal.

According to Seravalli's sources, Zegras has come up in Verbeek's talks with other clubs, though it's uncertain how far those discussions went. TSN's Darren Dreger reported Tuesday evening that the Ducks aren't shopping the 22-year-old forward, but there has been some interest in him.

Seravalli felt that Zegras doesn't seem to mesh with the style of game Verbeek envisions for the Ducks. Dreger said they'll continue to work with the young forward to improve his complete game but also suggested this could be a situation that comes to a head in the off-season.

Zegras has had his difficulties this season. He missed training camp due to his protracted contract talks, managed just two points in his first 12 games and was subsequently sidelined for 20 games with a lower-body injury. He netted five points in his last eight games but left Tuesday's game against the Nashville Predators with another injury.

Nevertheless, Zegras had 61 points as a rookie in 2021-22 and 65 points as a sophomore. His youth, offensive talent and affordable $5.75-million annual salary through 2025-26 would make him an attractive target for clubs seeking a potential scoring superstar.

If Verbeek decides to shop Zegras, it's a move that likely won't happen until the off-season. Based on the young forward's potential, the Ducks GM will seek more than what he got in return for Drysdale.
