

The Colorado Avalanche were regularly getting taken out to the woodshed in the first quarter of the season. Then, in the space of nine days, they not only cornered the market on guys with the word 'wood' in their names, but they also saved their 2024-25 season.
To go along with their Miles Wood, the Avalanche acquired goalie Scott Wedgewood from the Nashville Predators a little over a week ago and Mackenzie Blackwood from the San Jose Sharks.
Does this give the Avalanche elite goaltending? Heck, no, but it gives them good goaltending, and that's all they need.
Because, Lord knows, they weren't getting it from their Alexandar Georgiev-Justus Annenen tandem. To wit: the Avs have given up the fourth-fewest shots in the league this season and have surrendered the third-most goals.
