The Ducks knew it was a risk sending Lassi Thomson through waivers and the Ottawa Senators took advantage, reclaiming the former first-round pick.

Lassi Thomson's time with the Anaheim Ducks came to a swift end on Monday, with the Ottawa Senators reclaiming their former first-round pick.

This shouldn't come as much of a surprise to anyone, as there's really no reason for Ottawa not to claim him.

They can now send him to the Belleville Senators without having to pass him through waivers.

It was still worth a claim for the Ducks though. Thomson had a chance to steal a spot on their roster. He was probably viewed as a bit of insurance in case the team and Jamie Drysdale couldn't come to an agreement before opening night too.

But Drysdale has signed and the Ducks now don't have a spot for Thomson on the roster.

This isn't a big loss for the team, but having more skill in the organization is always a positive.

The 23-player roster is now set and the team is ready to go for Saturday night.
