As the Anaheim Ducks continue on with their rebuilding plan, they have started to shed salary. General Manager Pat Verbeek is a proponent of salary cap flexibility, and he has made sure to structure the roster in that way. It has seen multiple players be traded away for draft capital, and he has brought in more young talent than ever. One of the worst contracts left on the Ducks roster is that of long-time goalie John Gibson. He is owed $6.4 million each season for the next four years. It is one of the only contracts that directly goes against what Verbeek has tried to build in Anaheim. Gibson could be moved at some point, and he has even said that he would welcome it because he doesn’t want to be a part of a rebuilding team. This will be something to watch going forward and remains a mystery as the year gets started soon.
In other Ducks-related news, Trevor Zegras could sign a short-term deal to stay with Anaheim. New head coach Greg Cronin wants to make the playoffs next season, and the Ducks may have too much solid depth to use at one point.
