The Anaheim Ducks versus Columbus Blue Jackets game has been pushed back to an 8:30 Eastern Time start due to a power outage in downtown Columbus.
What was meant to be a 3:30 PT start will now be a 5:30 start, assuming power is restored.
Per Ducks PR, if the power is not restored by 3:00 PT, more information will be released regarding the game's status.
It's hard to remember the last time a game was postponed due to a power outage in the city it's being played in.
Every so often, games are postponed because of weather or other external factors, but I can't think of a game being delayed because of a lack of power city-wide.
Strangely enough, this is already the second time a power issue has impacted an NHL game this season.
Last Saturday in Seattle, the Kraken and New York Rangers dealt with an issue where the lights went out on one side of the rink.
The game was delayed for a bit, but eventually play resumed with the goalies switching sides halfway through each period to avoid an unfair advantage for either team.
We also saw something similar in the AHL during preseason.
The Ontario Reign and Coachella Valley Firebirds had to cancel one of their preseason games because the Firebird's arena was without power.
The NHL will certainly be hoping this doesn't become a habit, but three different organizations dealing with power issues already this year is odd.
We will update this article as information comes.
