On the precipice of a second consecutive silent July 1, the Anaheim Ducks announced on Tuesday afternoon they had signed forward Mikael Granlund to a three-year contract with an AAV of $7 million.
Granlund (33) is coming off his second straight 60-plus point season in 2024-25 with 66 points (22-44=66) in 83 games split between the San Jose Sharks and Dallas Stars.
Heading into the offseason, arguably the Ducks' biggest need was for a two-way middle-six center who could provide offense while absorbing difficult matchups against opposing top lines. A center depth chart consisting of Leo Carlsson, Mason McTavish, Ryan Strome, and Ryan Poehling was going to struggle against some of the top teams in the Western Conference. Especially so if the Ducks intend, as they’ve repeatedly stated, to make the 2026 playoffs.
Looking ahead, placing Granlund on a line between players like Alex Killorn and Troy Terry could provide the Ducks with a quality middle-six line that can not only drive offense and keep pucks alive in the offensive zone for extended periods, but can protect the middle in their own zone, kill attacks, and provide a transition threat as well.
The Ducks now have $28.9 million in cap space and 19 players under contract.
Granlund’s contract will carry a full no-trade clause in year one, a 15-team no-trade list in year two, and a 10-team no-trade list in year three.
