The Anaheim Ducks made a massive splash on Monday night, trading Jamie Drysdale and a second-round pick to the Philadelphia Flyers for prospect Cutter Gauthier.
Gauthier was the fifth overall pick in 2022, and according to reports, Gauthier was not interested in signing with the Flyers.
Because of this, they were willing to move him.
Gauthier has been one of the best players in college hockey over the last two seasons and looks like a potential star.
He's a big, physically dominant forward with a natural scoring touch.
He played wing leading up to his draft, but was set to be moved to center by the Flyers.
With this trade, he'll likely move back to the wing with Leo Carlsson and Mason McTavish already in the organization.
Gauthier and McTavish on a line together should be a dominant duo and a nightmare for teams to play against.
There's no guarantee these two play together, as Gauthier could also be a good fit with Carlsson or Trevor Zegras.
Regardless, Gauthier's flexibility to fit on multiple lines, with multiple players is exciting.
Losing an excellent young defensemen like Drysdale hurts, but you have to pay to get.
The fantastic start to Pavel Mintyukov's career likely makes this loss easier though.
Mintyukov looks like a future number one and someone you can build a defense core around.
Add in complementary pieces like Tristan Luneau and Olen Zellweger and you have the recipe for a great blue line.
Still in college, Gauthier won't join the team until the end of this season at the earlier.
Given the Ducks' struggles this season, continuing to build for the future makes sense.
At the end of the day, the Ducks have gotten a great young forward who's going to fit into this teams core for a long time.
