Wednesday morning, the NHL announced the nominees for the 2023-24 King Clancy Memorial Trophy. Each of the 32 teams nominated one player, and the Anaheim Ducks nominated defenseman Cam Fowler.

"I'm thankful to the team for nominating me," Fowler said after the nominees were announced. "It's definitely something I'm proud of."

The King Clancy Memorial Trophy is presented each year to the player who "best exemplifies leadership qualities on and off the ice and has made a noteworthy humanitarian contribution in his community."

The winner of the trophy will earn a $25,000 donation to benefit a charity of their choosing and will also be eligible to elect that his Club receive a grant from the NHL, up to $20,000, to help organize a special activation related to his humanitarian cause.

Cam Fowler is about to put a bow on his 14th NHL season and has spent his entire career in Anaheim with the Ducks. He has tallied the most career games played, goals, assists, and points among defensemen in franchise history.

The Ducks deploy an extremely young, but talented blueline on a nightly basis. Fowler and Radko Gudas are the only two defensemen in their 30's while five others are 25 years old or younger (Gustav Lindstrom, Jackson LaCombe, Urho Vaakanainen, Pavel Mintyukov, and Olen Zellweger).

"Having (Gudas) with me this year has helped out a lot," Fowler said when asked about leading the young blueline in 2023-24 and beyond. "There's a lot of young talent that we're really excited about. It's about trying to be a mentor for them. When I first started, I had a lot of people helping me out and showed me what it takes to be a professional on and off the ice. Our guys don't need much help with that, but any guidance or wisdom I can give to them, I try to help out as best I can."

In 2018, Cam Fowler and his wife, Jasmine, launched C4Kids, a charitable program with a goal of providing children in the community an opportunity to experience hockey.

"My wife and I have tried to be involved in the community as best we can," Fowler said of his contributions and his C4Kids program. "This year, we'd like to get involved with some kids on the education side and look into some scholarships."

The selection committee for the King Clancy Memorial Trophy will consist of NHL Commissioner Gary Bettman and former winners of the King Clancy Memorial Trophy and the historic NHL Foundation Player Award.

The winner of the 2023-24 King Clancy Memorial Trophy will be announced at the annual NHL Awards Show after the season has concluded.
