Cutter Gauthier was named the 2024 Bob Johnson Award Winner on Thursday, which recognizes excellence in international hockey competition.
Cutter Gauthier continues to add to his hardware collection. After winning gold in January at World Juniors—where he was named the top forward in the tournament, he has since been named USA Hockey’s 2024 Jim Johansson College Player of the Year and now the 2024 Bob Johnson Award Winner.
It’s been a whirlwind of a season for Gauthier, who put up eye-popping numbers in his sophomore season at Boston College. His 38 goals were the most in a Division I season since 2005-06, when Minnesota’s Ryan Potulny also scored 38.
A January trade shortly after the conclusion of the World Juniors brought Gauthier to the Ducks organization from the Philadelphia Flyers after he informed the Flyers that he would not play for them.
To say vitriol was thrown Gauthier’s way from Flyers fans after he chose not to disclose his reasoning behind the decision would be an understatement.
Gauthier was able to finish out the collegiate season, though he and Boston College finished third in the Beanpot Tournament and fell to Denver in the NCAA Frozen Four Tournament.
The cherry on top of a successful season at different levels came when he made his NHL debut in the final game of the season in Las Vegas against the Vegas Golden Knights. He wasted no time in getting his first NHL point either, producing the primary assist on Jackson LaCombe’s goal in a 4-1 win.
Gauthier will have an inside track to a roster spot next season as he has some of the best offensive skills in the Ducks organization. Remaining consistent and adjusting to the speed and size of the NHL game will be his top two priorities going into his first full season in the NHL.
