Now that development camp has come and gone, Ducks prospects are returning home. But just for a little bit.

Soon enough, rookie camp and the ensuing annual rookie faceoff tournament—which takes place in mid-September—will be on the horizon. The Ducks, Los Angeles Kings, Vegas Golden Knights, San Jose Sharks, Colorado Avalanche and Utah Hockey Club are the teams expected to take part in the tournament.

This year’s tournament will occur in El Segundo, Calif. at Toyota Sports Performance Center, the Kings’ practice facility.

On Monday, John Hoven of Mayor’s Manor revealed that the Ducks and Kings will face each other on Monday, Sept. 16 at 3:30 PM. The rest of the Ducks’ rookie faceoff tournament schedule is as follows: Friday, Sept. 13 at 3:30 PM against the Avalanche and Sunday, Sept. 15 against the Sharks at 4:00 PM.

2024 draft picks Maxim Massé, Ethan Procyszyn, Tarin Smith, Alex Blais and Beckett Sennecke—who recently signed his entry-level contract—are all expected to be on the Ducks’ rookie tournament roster.

The likelihood for first-round pick Stian Solberg—who also recently signed his ELC—and second-round Lucas Pettersson remains unclear with both players expected to play in Sweden in 2024-25.

The only Ducks prospect on last year’s rookie tournament roster who had a chance of playing overseas was Leo Carlsson, who ended up making the team out of camp.

After recently participating in his first development camp with the team, Cutter Gauthier will likely be a part of the Ducks’ rookie tournament roster too.

Once again, Matt McIlvane will be behind the bench for the rookie Ducks after coaching them last year in Vegas. The San Diego Gulls head coach spent lots of time with the prospects during development camp, walking them through drills and getting to know them better.

The Ducks and Kings both recently unveiled rebrands and both teams are expected to debut their new jerseys during the rookie tournament.
