Sudarshan Maharaj diagnosed with pancreatic cancer
Ducks games will mean a little more now that the teams goalie coach has been diagnosed with cancer.
The 59-year has been with the team since 2013-2014 and received the diagnosis following the regular season.
Maharaj is currently undergoing treatments and is expected to do surgery soon. The coach hopes to be back with the Ducks in his normal role once he gets surgery.
The Ducks organization and its owners Henry and Susie Samueli has already released a statement wishing Maharaj a quick recovery.
“We love Sudsie (Maharaj) so much! An amazing person and friend to so many in hockey. Our organization sends heartfelt support to his wife Yvonne, and daughters Alexandra and Katherine. Sudsie is bound and determined to beat this terrible disease, and we can’t wait until he does.” (via Orange County Register)
Maharaj became aware of the disease after a doctors visit where he though he had an ulcer.
Due to the early detection there is a good chance that Maharaj will return to coaching the Ducks once his treatments are done.
In the article, Maharaj sends a message, letting readers know that it is important to visit the doctor just in case.
“Basically, be aware … when we’re young we (think) we are invincible and we’re not always in tune with our own health,” he said in an interview with the Orange County Register. “It’s so important to listen to your body and make it a priority of getting yourself checked out and making sure you’re listening to your body.” (via Orange County Register)
