Joe Camporeale-USA TODAY Sports - Ducks select Austin Burnevik with 182nd overall pick

When Day 2 of the 2024 NHL Entry Draft began, the Ducks had the 164th overall pick and nothing more after the fourth round. They traded that pick to the Los Angeles Kings for picks 182 and 214, using pick 182 to select forward Austin Burnevik.

Burnevik spent two seasons with the U.S. National Team Development Program (NTDP) before moving to the Madison Capitols in the USHL last season.

After going undrafted last year, Burnevik showed enough in his D+1 season to be drafted this year. A diminished role with the NTDP after lightning it up in high school led to low scoring numbers for Burnevik, who made the move to the Capitols for a change of scenery. He’ll play collegiate hockey next season at St. Cloud State.

While Burnevik does have the size (6-foot-4) and skill to become an NHL player, his skating lacks far behind the rest of his attributes and will need to improve drastically if he hopes to make it to the NHL one day.
