The Ducks have locked down one of their arbitration-eligible players to a long-term deal.
On Thursday, it was announced that goaltender Lukáš Dostál had signed a five-year, $6.5 million AAV extension.
This extension secures Dostál as Anaheim’s No. 1 goaltender after John Gibson was traded to the Detroit Red Wings on June 28. Petr Mrázek, who was acquired in the Gibson trade, is Dostál’s fellow countryman and will likely serve as the backup goaltender this season.
Ducks’ Dostal Talks 2024-25 Season
Goaltender Lukáš Dostál had quite the season. He set new career-highs in wins, games played and wins. He also had the Ducks’ only shutout for the second consecutive season.
The long-term deal also serves as validation for Dostál, who carried the bulk of the goaltending workload this past season while Gibson dealt with several injuries. Setting career-highs in games played and wins, Dostál proved that he is ready to take on the responsibility of being a No. 1 goaltender in the NHL.
Getting a deal done before arbitration was crucial, as Dostál and his representation would have been able to choose between a one-year or two-year term. A two-year term would have walked him straight to unrestricted free agency.

Just recently turned 25, Dostál’s extension takes him through his age 30 season and buys three years of unrestricted free agency. His new cap hit effectively replaces the $6.4 million cap hit that Gibson had.
“Lukas has proven he is a No. 1 goaltender and we are so pleased to get this deal done,” general manager Pat Verbeek said. “He is just entering the prime of his career with his best hockey ahead of him.”
