The 23-year-old is expected to miss six weeks after undergoing successful surgery on Dec. 12.
When Trevor Zegras went down against the Vegas Golden Knights and immediately waved for the trainer after he couldn’t get back up, the worst was feared. Did he tear his ACL? His Achilles?
It appears that he avoided both of those outcomes after undergoing multiple evaluations to best determine how to treat his knee injury. He will be out for approximately six weeks after undergoing successful surgery to repair a torn meniscus in his right knee.
It’s the third long-term injury in two seasons for Zegras after he dealt with osteitis pubis at the beginning of last season and then suffered a broken ankle this past January.
Despite how much time he has missed, Zegras has proven that his presence (or lack of) heavily impacts the team. He is the Ducks’ most creative player and his concentrated effort to become a better player in his own end has led to more opportunities.
With Zegras out of the lineup, players like Mason McTavish, Cutter Gauthier and Leo Carlsson will be relied on to produce offensively alongside Troy Terry. Brett Leason, who skated with Carlsson and Alex Killorn in their game against the Ottawa Senators on Dec. 11, could be in line for more ice time as well.
