Who will the Ducks select?
Ending the year with the worst record in the NHL helped net the Anaheim Ducks the second overall pick in the NHL Draft. While they won't be getting Connor Bedard, the Ducks do have a chance to draft a cornerstone for the franchise going forward. We have a week to go until the draft and it still remains unclear who will go second overall.
Corey Pronman of The Athletic has more on the Ducks potential decision.
"With a week to go until the draft I don’t think there’s a ton of clarity in the league on who goes second overall. Half the people in the NHL think it will be Fantilli, half the league thinks it will be Leo Carlsson. It’s considered very close between the two players with a lot of teams, but I think at the end of the day everything Fantilli is as a player will win out and make him the selection."
The Ducks will be selecting from either Adam Fantilli from The University of Michigan or Leo Carlsson from Örebro HK of the Swedish Hockey League. Either player would provide the Ducks with a true star caliber plater but one stands above the other in my opinion.
To me, Fantilli should be the pick. In any other draft, he likely would go number one and he would be no consolation prize for the Ducks. He looks like he will be a star and could help turn things around for Anaheim.
Fantilli dominated the college ranks, something we don't normally see. He has incredible vision and IQ for the game, which are two traits that you can't teach. He could be the next great center for the Ducks and lead them back to the promise land.
Anaheim would be making a mistake if they pass on Fantilli after the season that they just had. But Pat Verbeek knows what he is doing and fans just need to trust in him to make the right choice.
