An update from the Bruins on Charlie McAvoy is expected to be coming.
Boston Bruins defenseman Charlie McAvoy did not play in Team USA's matchup against Team Canada on Feb. 17. It initially seemed that this could be simply Team USA resting McAvoy before the 4 Nations Face-Off Final on Feb. 20, but, unfortunately, it was later revealed that there was more to the story.
Team USA head coach Mike Sullivan announced that McAvoy is dealing with an upper-body injury, while the Boston Globe's Jim McBride reported that No. 73 was admitted to Mass General Hospital.
Now, according to NHL insider Pierre LeBrun, the Boston Bruins are expected to provide an update on McAvoy's injury on Feb. 18. In addition, LeBrun noted that the star blueliner is still having tests done.
McAvoy is the Bruins' top defenseman, so it would be absolutely brutal for them if he ends up needing to miss time. The Bruins are in a crucial part of the season, as they trail the Detroit Red Wings by one point for the final wild card spot in the Eastern Conference. Thus, they need as many wins as they can get, and losing their best defenseman would not help their chances on that front.
McAvoy, 27, has appeared in 50 games this season with the Bruins, where he has seven goals, 23 points, 81 blocks, and 89 hits.
