The latest Boston Bruins injury updates following Wednesday's practice:
The Boston Bruins returned from their two-game road trip in Detroit and Dallas, practicing before Thursday’s home matchup against the New York Islanders. Wednesday's practice saw several personnel changes since the last time the Bruins took the ice.
Morgan Geekie did not skate, and Bruins coach Jim Montgomery announced he is ‘week to week’ with an upper-body injury.
Meanwhile, Derek Forbort, who has missed the past three games with an undisclosed injury, returned to the ice. He is questionable for Thursday’s game against the Islanders.
Jakub Lauko also returned to practice, but in a non-contact jersey. Lauko exited Boston’s 3-0 win against the Chicago Blackhawks on Oct. 24 after taking Blackhawks forward Sam Dickinson’s skate to the face, resulting in a fracture.
“Lauko’s just starting his stage of process of getting back,” Montgomery told reporters on Wednesday. “So he’s definitely out tomorrow, and we’ll see how he progresses from there.”
Both Milan Lucic (lower body) and Matt Grzelcyk (upper body) remain on long-term injured reserve, and Charlie McAvoy will sit out for the final game of his four-game suspension he received for an illegal check to the head on Florida Panthers defenseman Oliver Ekman-Larsson.
Given the recent strong performances of Danton Heinen and Oskar Steen playing alongside Johnny Beecher, one or both will now likely see more time in the lineup with Geekie’s injury, as the eventual returns of Lauko and Lucic will create questions in the bottom six.
For now, the Bruins will look to win their 11th game of the season while even more short-handed against the Islanders.
