The NHL trade market has a new star center on it. Sportsnet's Elliotte Friedman reported [https://www.sportsnet.ca/nhl/article/sources-dylan-larkin-requests-trade-from-detroit/] on Thursday afternoon that Dylan Larkin has requested a trade from the Detroit Red Wings. When noting that he is not only the Red Wings' captain but a Michigan native, it is certainly fair to argue that this trade request is a major shocker. Yet, with Larkin wanting a fresh start, the Boston Bruins absolutely need to make a major push for him immediately. If the Bruins landed Larkin, he would give them the first-line center that they need desperately. He would also be a long-term answer for their 1C spot, as he has an $8.7 million cap hit until the end of the 2030-31 season. However, he also has a full no-movement clause, so he will have complete say over where he gets traded. Larkin is coming off another strong season with the Red Wings, posting 34 goals and 67 points in 74 games. This was the fifth season in a row that Larkin scored at least 30 goals and recorded at least 67 points. With this, he has been very consistent and would be a massive pickup for Boston if acquired. The price to land Larkin will be high, as he is a proven first-line center with a good contract. However, with the Bruins needing a first-line center badly, they should be willing to pay the price for the 29-year-old center.
