One move the Boston Bruins [https://thehockeynews.com/nhl/boston-bruins] should look to make this off-season is bringing in a legitimate top-six winger. There is no question that the Bruins' forward group needs a major boost if they hope to turn things back around, so it could very well be a busy summer in Boston. When looking at potential trade candidates around the league, one player who could be a strong addition to the Bruins' roster is Pittsburgh Penguins forward Bryan Rust. Rust would be a major pickup for the Bruins [https://news.google.com/publications/CAAqLQgKIidDQklTRndnTWFoTUtFWFJvWldodlkydGxlVzVsZDNNdVkyOXRLQUFQAQ/sections/CAQqEAgAKgcICjCvqtILMO7F6QMwluDfCA?hl=en-CA&gl=CA&ceid=CA:en] if acquired. It is apparent that they desperately need to find a true answer for their second-line right wing spot, and a player like Rust would finally give them just that. The Michigan native has been an impactful offensive player throughout his career, and that did not change in 2024-25 with the Penguins. In fact, he just had one of the best seasons of his 11-year career. In 71 games this season with the Penguins, Rust set new career highs with 31 goals and 65 points. He has also scored at least 20 goals in each of the last six seasons, so he would undoubtedly give the Bruins another impactful offensive contributor if acquired. In addition, he would be a clear option for their power play. Another appealing element about Rust is that he has a reasonable $5.125 million cap hit until the end of the 2027-28 season. Thus, he would be more than a rental for Boston if acquired, which could be appealing to a Bruins club looking to get back into the playoffs. Nevertheless, with the Bruins' forward group needing serious help, acquiring a winger like Rust would be a nice step in the right direction.
