We are now five days into July. Due to this, the majority of this year's free agency class have found their new homes. While this is the case, several former Buffalo Sabres players still have yet to be signed. Let's discuss five of them now.
Kyle Okposo is the most notable former Sabre who remains unsigned. The former Sabres captain was notably traded by the Sabres to the Florida Panthers at the deadline. From there, the Minnesota native lifted the Stanley Cup.
Kyle OkposoOkposo, 36, is still a serviceable bottom-six forward at this point of his career and should be able to land a short-term deal before the season if he elects not to retire. In 67 games last season, he had 12 goals, 22 points, and 75 hits.
Marco Scandella is another former Sabre still available for the taking. Due to his experience, a club could be willing to sign him to a cheap one-year deal before the season starts.
Scandella played each of the last five seasons with the St. Louis Blues. In 65 games with St. Louis in 2023-24, he posted two goals, eight points, 70 hits, and a plus-8 rating.
Former Sabres defenseman Chad Ruhwedel is still looking for a new home on the fifth of July. The San Diego native was not re-signed by the New York Rangers, but there could be a team willing to bring him in.
Chad RuhwedelRuhwedel spent this past season split between the Pittsburgh Penguins and Rangers, posting one goal, four points, and a minus-6 rating in 52 games.
Former Sabres goalie Malcolm Subban has yet to be signed, but that has the potential to change. He has proven to be a solid, experienced depth goalie to have in the AHL. He was also solid for the Columbus Blue Jackets in his lone start for the club in 2023-24, saving 32 out of 35 shots.
Dustin Tokarski spent this past season with the Sabres' AHL affiliate, the Rochester Americans. The Sabres elected not to re-sign him, and he is still a free agent at the time of this writing.

Tokarski could land a two-way deal from a club looking to improve their goaltending in the AHL. In 24 games this past season with Rochester, he had a 3.32 GAA and a .890 SV%.
