Buffalo wins their fourth straight pre-season game against the Senators

While the Buffalo Sabres NHL roster readied itself for an exhibition game in Munich on Friday, the remaining training camp roster maintained the club’s unbeaten streak, as rookie Noah Ostlund scored in overtime to give the Sabres a 3-2 victory over the Ottawa Senators in Kanata, ON on Thursday.

Noah Gregor and Josh Dunne exchanged first-period tallies, and Adam Gaudette gave the Sens a 2-1 lead midway through the third on the power play, before Isak Rosen tied the game in the waning moments of regulation with Felix Sandstrom pulled for the extra attacker.

Ostlund completed the comeback with a spectacular individual effort to beat former Sabre Dustin Tokarski for the victory. The 2022 first-rounder is expected to begin his first full season in North America in AHL Rochester, but head coach Michael Leone is looking to protect the young center by playing him on the wing at times early in the season.

"I think it's good for players to play on the wall, to learn wall play, and you've got to win puck battles," Leone said. "(Center is) his natural position. I don't know what we're going to do yet, but there's a lot more responsibility, especially in your own zone, (and) for a young player (that) is really good, but versatility is really important."

The Sabres with new team captain Rasmus Dahlin are taking on HC Red Bull Munchen in Munich on Friday, while the North American contingent of the club will take on the Columbus Blue Jackets at Nationwide Arena on Saturday night.
